Q2- What happens with a bog when the extraction of peat is stopped and the bog is abandoned?
In the past old bogs were transformed for agriculture or in some cases there were trees planted to create new forest. Nowadays they rearrange the drain system and divide the area into small sections with little dikes. By doing so they create a new ecosystem where peat starts growing again and finally the result will be a new peat area.
Q3- How much does peat grow per year?
Of course that depends on the circumstances of the area, but per year you can expect not more then a few millimetres.
