Jiffy and 'Polar Bear' awareness

JIFFY IS THE REASON WE CELEBRATE POLAR BEAR AWARENESS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

 

This December at the Palazzo-Venetian Resort atrium in  Las Vegas, NV Polar Bears International, the nonprofit organization dedicated to the worldwide conservation of the polar bear and it's Arctic habitat commanded worldwide attention with their topiary of a polar bear and her cub. 

The custom structure constructed of a 16 foot tall polar bear and 6 foot tall baby cub made entirely of the white "Polar Bear" poinsettia developed by the Ecke Ranch and grown in Jiffy 50mm Carefree Plugs by Armstrong Growers.   The trick to this was how to grow the poinsettias in a media suitable for the placement in the large and intricate chicken wire and moss topiary structure.  Armstrong Growers had an assignment to make this happen. 

 

 

 

Michael Brenner, the Jiffy District Sales Manager suggested that Armstrong use the Carefree Plugs as a means of media that will be suitable for placement in the structure.  The Poinsettias were beautifully grown in the Carefree Plugs and were successfully placed as the outside topiary fur of the bears. 

With over 10,000 poinsettias the effect was amazing. 

 

At the formal presentation, accolades were paid to Jiffy from Robert Buchanan, the President of Polar Bears International, for making the right media for  the white poinsettias to be grown in so they could complete the desired effect of the white polar bear fur.  Had it not been for the Jiffy Carefree Plugs, this event might not have happened.  This same gathering is planned for the next three years in Las Vegas. 

Jiffy Products, Armstrong Growers and the Ecke Ranch each contributed to make this important event a super success.  Individual white "Polar Bear" poinsettias in Carefree Plugs were available for sale to the public with the proceeds going to the Polar Bear International organization.  Armstrong Growers with the knowledge that they have now with the Carefree Plugs will expand this type of program. Plans are to offer different structures using various crops for future venues at general landscape projects and for resorts.  The impact of Jiffy Carefree Plugs on this type of project is infinite.  Look for new topiary structures with Carefree Plugs as the media in the future.
