How long do the pots take to decompose after planting?

FAQ

Decomposition of the peat pots depends on how much fertilizer is applied (Nitrogen) and how much organic matter is in the soil in which the pots are planted. It has been said that the pots disintegrate in the soil, but this is a misstatement. Actually, neither peat moss nor wood fiber disintegrates readily. They are composed of organic substances which require time and bacterial activity to wear them down. Peat moss would not be a desirable material to use in conditioning soil if it were to break down within a matter of weeks or months. Once the roots start penetrating the pot wall freely and readily and enter the surrounding soil, the pot becomes a part of the growing medium.
